Bangladesch: Nach Protesten übernimmt Armee Kontrolle

Heute erreichte uns die Information, dass es in Bangladesch nach andauernenden Protesten zum Fall der autokratischen Regierung unter Premierministerin Sheikh Hasina gekommen ist. Hasina habe das Land verlassen. Die Proteste gingen von Student*innen und Arbeiter*innen aus, unter ihnen auch viele der Menschen, die in der für das Land wichtigen Bekleidungsindustrie arbeiten und in der Gewerkschaft NGWF organisiert sind. Mit der NGWF sind wir über unseren Link zum ExChains-Netzwerk vernetzt. Die Armee hat nun die Kontrolle über das Land an sich genommen und unsere Kolleg*innen von der NGWF verschaffen sich gerade einen Überblick über die Situation. Tragischerweise sind bei den Protesten bereits 11 Arbeiter*innen ums Leben gekommen, davon 4 Mitglieder der NGWF. Weiterhin sollen über 50 Arbeiter*innen verletzt und über 100 verhaftet worden sein. Dear Anton,

As a result of the prolonged struggle by students and mass people, the autocratic government has finally fallen. The head of the government not only resigned but also left the country. In the meantime, the army has taken temporary control of the government. According to the commitment made by the chief of the army, a meeting will be called soon to form an interim government.

NGWF by official statement supported the struggle from the starting point. NGWF also issued another public statement against the murders, mass arrests and the total massacre. Unfortunately, we have suffered significant losses during these events:
-        NGWF Members Lost: 4
-        RMG Workers Lost: 11
-        Injured: Over 50
-        Arrested: Over 100
We are currently working to identify the total number of injured and imprisoned individuals, number of cases filed against the activists and workers. We will send detailed information as soon as it is available. Rest assured, we are closely and carefully monitoring the situation.
