Hoodie Ding Dong! (Maggie Thatcher)
Hoodie Ding Dong! (Maggie Thatcher)
The April 2022 design commemorates the epic struggle of mining communities in the UK against Margaret Thatcher's Conservative government in 1984/1985. The miners went on strike against the closure of their mines and were supported by a large number of women, particularly miners' wives. The women played an active role in supporting the strike and enabled the industrial action to continue for almost a year until it was finally crushed. When Thatcher died in April 2013, street parties broke out across the country, particularly in former mining communities. The 1939 song "Ding-Dong The Witch Is Dead" became the soundtrack to these celebrations and made such a rapid comeback that it eventually reached number 1 in the charts. The design was created by Zoran Svilar from Novi Sad, Serbia. Zoran works as an art director and illustrator for the Serbian edition of the newspaper Le Monde diplomatique, the magazine ROAR, VICE and many others.
