The design for November 2025 celebrates the legendary Irish born dressmaker and worker organiser Mother Jones who died on 30 November 1930 in Maryland, US. Born Mary Harris in Cork, Ireland, Mother Jones emigrated to the United States during the Great Famine, seeking a better life amid hardship and loss. After enduring personal tragedy, the deaths of her husband and children, and the destruction of her home in the Chicago Fire, she devoted herself fully to the cause of working people.
To Jones, the labor movement was a fight not only for fair pay, but for class liberation itself and for the right of ordinary people to live with dignity and self-respect. As she once said, “If they want to hang me, let them. And on the scaffold, I will shout, Freedom for the working class!". Her organizing among miners, textile workers, and child laborers gave voice to the voiceless and helped lay the groundwork for modern labor rights.
Powerful figures of her time despised her and a judge famously described her as "the most dangerous woman in America", a reflection of how deeply her message unsettled those who profited from inequality. Today, she stands as a symbol of courage, solidarity, and hope and reminds us that justice is never won by the few, but by the many who dare to stand and fight together.
