July 2022 is about the word "scab" and since when it has been used as a derogatory term for strikebreakers. In July 1777, the word "scab", which means "strikebreaker", was printed for the first time. Since then, it has been an integral part of the vocabulary of the labor movement.

Until the end of the 16th century, "scab" was mainly used as an English insult, similar to "lowlife" or "scoundrel", but at some point it emerged in industrial disputes as a term for workers who broke picket lines and worked while their colleagues were striking for better pay and working conditions. It was Bonner & Middleton's Bristol Journal that first wrote about "scabs" or strikebreakers on July 5, 1777, during a shoemakers' strike. The article stated:

"The conflict would not have been so sharp if there had not been so many dirty scabs."

The design of the July shirt is inspired by none other than author, photographer and journalist Jack London. He once said the following about strikebreakers:

“After God had created the rattlesnake, the toad, and the vampire, he had a horrible substance left over from which he made a scab.” And further: “Where others have hearts, he [the strikebreaker] bears a tumor of rotten principles.”

This time the design was implemented by Nanu from Indonesia. His design stands for diversity and solidarity among workers. Rattlesnakes, toads and vampires united against strikebreakers!
